WATERFORD – State Rep. Jake Banta (R-Erie) announced today that 21 volunteer fire and ambulance companies throughout the 4th District have qualified to receive approximately $257,531 from a grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

“Our irreplaceable fire and ambulance companies face numerous challenges in protecting lives and property throughout our communities and we need to do all we can to support them,” said Banta. “They also must invest a large amount of their time raising funds to ensure they can continue their mission. That’s why I am grateful this flexible grant program exists so that our emergency responders can apply these funds to best meet their specific needs.”

Initiated by the PA General Assembly in 2000, this statewide grant program is open to all fire, ambulance and rescue companies across the Commonwealth. All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue.

Projects eligible for funding include recruitment and retention, construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training or debt reduction.
