HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jake Banta (R-Erie) was officially sworn into office today to begin his first term in the Pennsylvania House serving the people of the 4th Legislative District.

“My passion as a public servant is hard work, and the original intent of our state and federal Constitutions is my guide,” said Banta. “As a citizen lawmaker, I am here to roll up my sleeves and put We the People First, so everyone has the same opportunity to prosper and thrive.”

Born and raised in Waterford, Banta graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 1983 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seals. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his family’s farm and worked in the oil and natural gas industry.

“Pennsylvania has been blessed with an abundance of natural resources,” said Banta. “Yet, our hard-working families are struggling to put food on their table due to unprecedented increases at the gas pump and unaffordable utility costs. In addition to eliminating the overbearing restrictions and regulations that make it essentially impossible to do business or create jobs here, we must effectively maximize energy independence and safely ramp up domestic energy production across the Commonwealth to fuel our economy like never before.”

Following the 9/11 attacks on America, Banta went to work as a security specialist for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), serving his nation in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Middle Eastern areas of operations for 18 years.

With his own company, Banta Security LLC, he also served as a maritime security officer in the Middle East and Central America. Over the years, Banta has also had a successful musical career—spanning more than three decades—locally to nationally.

“Having worked in over 15 countries and learning from my experiences, I truly believe that our state and nation can achieve greatness again,” concluded Banta. “Whether its universally requiring Voter ID to ensure election integrity or protecting the unborn, setting the tone for what laws are going to be advanced to restore our Commonwealth to its rightful place of preeminence is the job of the Legislature. We must immediately seize the opportunity to demonstrate to the people we are ready, willing and able to complete the mission they have sent us here to accomplish.”

The 4th Legislative District includes portions of Erie County and consists of the City of Corry; the townships of Amity, Concord, Franklin, Girard, Greenfield, LeBoeuf, McKean, North East, Union, Venango, Washington and Waterford; and the boroughs of Edinboro, Elgin, Girard, Lake City, McKean, Mill Village, North East, Platea, Union City, Waterford and Wattsburg.
